ADOPTION POLICY

NY Cat Warriors – New York State Registered 501(c)(3)

1. Purpose
NY Cat Warriors is committed to placing cats in safe, loving, and permanent homes. This Adoption Policy outlines our standards, procedures, and expectations to protect the welfare of our cats and ensure responsible adoptions.

2. Eligibility Requirements
To adopt from NY Cat Warriors, applicants must:
● Be at least 18 years of age
● Provide valid contact and address information
● Demonstrate that all household members consent to the adoption
● Have housing that permits cats
● Agree to keep adopted cats indoors only, unless otherwise approved
● Meet safety requirements appropriate for NYC residences (including window guards or secure screens)
Submission of an application does not guarantee approval.

3. Application Review Process
● Applications are reviewed in the order received
● Additional information, references, or a follow-up questionnaire may be required
● A phone call, virtual meeting, or home check may be requested at the rescue’s discretion
● NY Cat Warriors reserves the right to deny any application without obligation to provide a detailed explanation

4. Medical Disclosure
In accordance with New York State law, NY Cat Warriors discloses all known medical and behavioral history of a cat prior to adoption. Cats are adopted “as is,” with no guarantees regarding future health or behavior.

5. Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Care
● All cats are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, or adopters must agree in writing to complete sterilization by a specified date
● Adopters agree to provide routine and emergency veterinary care for the life of the cat

6. Adoption Fees
Adoption fees are donations that support rescue operations, including but not limited to veterinary care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and supplies. Adoption fees are non-refundable except as required by law.

7. Special-Needs & FeLV Cats
Cats with medical or behavioral needs may require additional screening and a supplemental questionnaire. By adopting a special-needs cat, adopters acknowledge they have received full disclosure and understand the ongoing care requirements.

8. Return-to-Rescue Policy
If an adopter can no longer care for the cat, the cat must be returned to NY Cat Warriors. The cat may not be surrendered to another rescue, shelter, individual, or otherwise rehomed without written permission.

9. Right of Refusal
NY Cat Warriors reserves the right to refuse or cancel an adoption at any stage if it is determined that the placement is not in the best interest of the cat.
